17 Union Street

Hingham, Massachusetts

HINGHAM PUBLIC UBRARY. HINBHAM. MASS.

Our respected principal, one of the
truly "great men," announced his
retirement this year. The Hingham
School Department has been ex-
tremely fortunate to have had Mr.
MacLeod as an employee for the
past thirty-five years. He began as
a junior high math teacher and
continued as an assistant principal
until he finally assumed the role of
high school principal. The rest, so
they say, is history. Since 1984, Mr.
MacLeod has been a wonderful
leader of Hingham High School,

demonstrating his kindness and dedication time and time again. His integrity and patience have
been an inspiration to faculty and students alike. And while Hingham High School will be saying
good-bye to both a principal and a friend, we must appreciate the profound impact he has had both
on the high school and our lives. Thank you, Mr. MacLeod, for your footprints.

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime;
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time...
-Longfellow

JUNIOR PROM

rhe junior prom was a huge suc-
cess. Everyone looked great, and,
more importantly, everyone had a
great time. The decorating com-
mittee (with the help of Mr.
Swett's daughters)
worked hard to
transform the high
school cafeteria
into a veritable
party atmosphere,
with the help of
Mardi Gras beads
of course. The
theme was the New
Orleans festival:
even the bathrooms
were decorated and

looked amazing. Here, Kevin
Foley and Mike MacMaster cer-
tainly look ready and willing to
hit the dance floor. We all defi-
nitely spent the night dancing- it
was hard to tear
ourselves away at
the end of the
evening! With the
music and the deco-
rations, a good time
was guaranteed.
Thanks to everyone
who helped to make
the junior prom SO
successful, espe-
cially our class ad-
visors, Mrs. Boyer
and Mr. Swett.

Everyone looks absolutely stunning as they pose before the dance.

HOMECOMING

The Senior Class turned out in all their sparkling
glory for their last Homecoming dance. Whether we were
decked out in sunglasses and
boas or ties and baseball hats,
we all had a blast. Although
the construction forced every-
one into the cafeteria this year,
the night was definitely memo-
rable for everyone. We danced
all night to the DJ's great mu-
sic, including our class song.
Van Halen's "Right Now". Nei-
ther crowds nor heat could
cramp our style as the class united for the first "last" of
the year.

HALLOWEEN

Everyone really got
into Halloween this
year at Hingham High
School. We had our
range from heavenly
beauties on earth (the
Senior Goddesses !) to
cross-dressers, and
those whose costumes
no one could figure
out. Trick or Treat!

The "Senior Goddesses
were one of the win-
ners of the costume
contest. With glitter,
togas, crowns and
sashes, how could we
NOT look gorgeous! It
was by far the prettiest
costume of the day.
What can we say- we
fit the role all too well!

Sean, Bill, and Steve decided they wanted
the long hair look- maybe they should leave
that to the girls!

Jim and Charlie- a little out of character.

Matt and Jill as our favorite sailors.

14

The 1999 Girls Powder Puff Game was an enormous success. The "Senior Goddesses" played
I brilliant game and destroyed the juniors with a decisive victory of 32-0. The seniors were led by their
^erocious captains: Andie Slomkowski, Heather Mendes, and Stacy Ward. Highlights of the game
ncluded Heather's numerous touchdowns, Ana's surprisingly tenacious tackle, Hutch's amazing in-
terception and subsequent touchdown, and Andie's several NFL caliber tackles. The senior team was

navigated by
quarterbackLauren
Scroll who did an
excellent job dic-
tating the plays.
Special thanks go
out to Justin,
Matt, Kevin, JJ,
and Mike for put-
ting in their time,
effort and pa-
tience in training
the girls to be
tough. Thanks
'or leading us to victory. The seniors proved to carry on the tradition of victory by shutting out the
uniors in an aggressive, athletic showdown. Good job, girls!

15

CONSTRUCTION

The construction has been a big and messy
part of our lives this year at Hingham High
School. Unfortunately, it should be done just in
time for our departure ! But despite dodging lad-
ders leading to holes in the ceiling, major traffic
in the halls between classes, the occasional
thumps and buzzing sounds, and walking from
the oh-so-far parking lot- it hasn't been that bad.
We have been able to reap the benefits of the
large new library, the new classrooms, the new
locker rooms, the new auditorium and a refur-
bished gymnasium. Oh, maybe just one more
complaint- we're getting a little bit tired of fire-
drills, especially the ones on rainy days!

CROSS COUNTRY

Coming in freshman year, the chances for victory looked shm for the Boys Cross Countn

they once had. The boys tri-captains, James Diorio, Tyler Nielsen and Micah Weisberg havt

The girls team came from a strong
beginning and has not only sustained
but improved its reputation. The co-

strong and with no regrets. The girl's
team is very close and supportive. But
what makes the Boys and Girls Cross
Country teams unique is the support
that they give each other. As a co-ed

GIRLS' SOCCER

Full of spirit and ready for war at the Homecoming rally

The Girls' Soccer team had another fun
season in 1999. Under third year Coach Guy
Enoch, the team was led by captains Kerrie
Lenhart, Jill Rowley and Elizabeth Spatola and
seniors Andrea Hutcheson and Casey Fitzmaurice
Team bonding was a big focus again with spa-
ghetti dinners, personal shields, dance parties, anc
skeletons in the closet. Although we did not have
a winning record, we improved individually and
as a team. Our new "four-flat" defense formation
was frustrating at first, but by our final game we
had mastered this difficult change with
significant help from underclassmen. We
put up a good fight against the formidable
*^ Duxbury and Plymouth North. Thanks to
5^ -^^ ^ our biggest fan Stuart, we never lacked
motivation or determination.

BOYS' SOCCER

The boys soccer team won their second
consecutive Patriot League Title with a record
of 12-4-2. The team won their biggest game
against Plymouth North which
sparked a seven game win
streak. The team was led by
the captains Todd Butterworth,
Rich Finn, and Evan
Lindquist. Leading the attack
were Keith Conway, Chris
Marshall, Tom Griffin and
Evan Lindquist. The skilled
players of the midfield, Mike
Count, Rich Finn,
and Nick

Accomando
helped keep the
ball in Hingham's
possession. The
defense was an-
chored by Mark

Buntrock, Todd Butterworth, and Adam
Vickers who protected Jeff Born in net. The
team All-Stars were Jeff Born, Todd
Butterworth, Mike Count, and
Evan Lindquist with junior
Stewart Dykes. Evan
Lindquist and Jeff Born were
also selected as Eastern
Massachussetts All-Stars. Al-
though they had a disappoint-
ing end to the season, their first
year with coach Ken Carlin
went extremely well. Memo-
rable quotes were:
"I'm too young to
die!" -Bunty,
"I'm gonna go
play football!" -
Jeff Bom, "That
I one's for you,

FOOTBALL

The Hingham High Football Team had an ac-
tion-packed season in 1999. It was obvious that the
team was better than their 1-9 record indicated, as the
team was in every game. The team was led by se-
niors: Chris Bleidorn, Mike Costello, Jim Fitzpatrick,
Kevin Gaughen, Jamarr Humphrey, Tim Jones, Eric
Kahn, Brian Kiely, Kevin McGowan, Tom Meehan,
Brian Norton, JJ
O'Keefe, and Nick
Rocco. This year's
captains were Matt
Fallon, Justin Lynch,
and Nick Shore. At the
end-of-the-year ban-
quet, team awards were
given to Defensive

MVPs (Chris Bleidorn and Nick Rocco), Offensive
MVPs (Nick Shore and Kevin McGowan), Coach's
Award (Justin Lynch), and Team MVP (Matt Fallon).
The team would like to thank Head Coach Paul
Killinger, Offensive Coordinator Gordon Smith, De-
fensive Coordinator Ralph "Step 'n Rip" Goselin, and
Line Coaches Brian Chamberlain and Jim Langeill.

We would like to thank
everyone who made
this season possible. It
was a fun year, as we
were a close team and
will take with us a lot
of memories. Good

CHEERLEADING

The Hingham High Football Cheer-
leaders were an important part of ral-
lying school and
team spirit at the
games this year.
The squad was
much larger this
year than in past
years, gaining
new members
from the fresh-
man class. Led i
by captains Tiffany Lamier, Allison

Spahn and Andrea Wright along with
Coach Susan Smith, the girls looked

great together.
Another accom-
plishment was
working with the
senior class to
put on this year's
homecoming
dance, a huge
success, as usual.
The girls were
thrilled with their great 1999 season.

Girls: We had an awesome
winter track season this year,
finishing with a record of 7-
1-1. The girls were unde-
feated until we met our
match with Scituate at the
end of the season, thanks to
our coaches Mr. Hermann
and Mr. Manganello as well
as our captains, Lauren
Curtis, Heather Mendes, and
Andie Slomkowski. Our meet against East Bridgewater was a huge team effort
and we were satisfied to tie them. Psych-buddies were fun as usual, and deciding
what to wear on meet days always became a major project and debate. We'll miss
BU, Store 24, McDonald's, and nasty Thai food experiments.

Boys: Another great season for boys' winter track. Our coach Mr. Hermann helped

lead us to success at Boston University

and the Reggie Lewis Center. We'll never

Though they graduated
two State Champions from
last year, the Wrestling
Team had, in Coach
Barges' words, "one of
their best seasons." Se-
niors, Brian Norton, Nick
Rocco, and Chad
Saltmarsh all made Sec-
tional Finals, and both
Brian Norton and Nick
Rocco were Sectional
Champions. The four cap-
tains, Chris Bleidorn,
Brian Norton, Nick Rocco, and Chad Saltmarsh,
all had excellent seasons and led the team to win
both the Pilgrim Conference and Patriot League

titles. The team was un-
defeated in both leagues,
and was also one of the
South Sectional Finalists.
The final record for the
team was 17-3. Some of
their biggest wins were
against Whitman-Hanson
and Marshfield in the Pil-
grim Conference League,
and Rockland and Scituate
in the Patriot League. The
Wrestling Team was
ranked in the top 10 of the

SPRING TRACK

Spring Track is different from other spring sports
because the boys' and girls' teams are insepa-
rable. Beginning in freshman year, when both
teams rode the same bus to all away games, and
we often ran the same practices, our teams have
defined themselves with their friendliness and
their good sportsman-
ship. The girls' team be-
gan freshman year with
coach Mr. Manganello
and assistant coach Mrs.
Kirby (Crowley), and al-
though Mrs. Kirby re-
signed, none of us could
ever forget her track
workouts from hell!
When Mr. Buscinski
(Coach Buzz) took over
Mrs. Kirby's assitant
coaching position, he
quickly became a re-
spected coach, running
out to Turkey Hill with us right after the mara-
thon. The girls excelled during the regular sea-
son, sending many girls from our class to the
state meet over our 4 years. Meghan Fortin in
High Jump, Heather Mendes in the 200m,
Michelle Coughlin in the Hurdles and Elise
MacVarish in the 400m.

The Boys' Track Team lost a spectacular coach
in Mr. Steve Hermann as sophmores, but Mr.
Brian Chamberlain has worked hard to fill his
shoes, certainly aided by captains Jeff Born,
Steve Daly, James Diorio and Evan Lindquist.
The boys also ran 4 excellent seasons. Jeff Born

competed at states in sev-
eral events, Jamie Diorio
in the 800m, Steve Daly
in the 200m, Brendan
Gallagher in the Hurdles,
and Evan in the 200m.
Who could forget:
Plyometrics; Ultimate
Frisbee, Double Hills;
Frosh/Soph meets; the
Batons; Shot Put relay
team; "Chumma"; Sweat,
Unity and Pain; Group
Stretching; Taking out
the equipment; bounding
across the football field;
or track workouts during lacrosse games?
Events: 100m, 200m, 40Um, 800m, 1 mile, 2
mile, 4x1 00m relay, Discus, Shot Put, Javelin,
High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, 100m High
Hurdles (110m - Boys), 300m Intermediate
Hurdles.

Varsity Girls' Tennis had a great season this year! Our new coach
Deb Boles added great spirit and excitement to the team. Jillian Marcus

We were very successful in both the State and Individual tournaments and

SOFTBALL

Losing a coach is hard, but as this year's Hingham High School Softball Team found

out, replacing a coach as kind and caring as Skip Mortimer is even harder. In the 1999

season, the varsity team did an excellent job in the field and at the plate. This year.

Captain Jill Sakolove and seniors Christy Bell and Alexis Baker will lead the team in

their efforts to make it to the play-offs. Together this team has built many memories

that will last a lifetime : "All

that jazz!", Halloween

homerun derby! Making the

video! Spaghetti dinners!

"Give it to me, baby!" As they

leave Hingham High School,

they would like to wish past,

present, and future softball

team members good luck in

college and in the future.

Thanks to retired Coach Skip

Mortimer for the excellent

coaching over the years, which

has made this team what it is.

The Girls' Lacrosse Team enjoyed another tremendous success during the 2000 season. The
1999 season as juniors was a record-breaking one under Coaches Heather Williams and Cory Ford.

In 1999, the Hingham Boys' Lacrosse Team had a
very successful season, its most sucessful since
1996. Hingham finished with
a record of 13-5, good enough
to be seeded fifth in the East-
em Massachusetts tournament.
The season highlights included
multiple wins over long time
rivals Duxbury and
Weymouth. The second win
advanced Hingham to the
quarterfinal round of the tour-
nament, where the Harbormen
bowed out to league rival
Falmouth. Off-field highlights
include Joe Griffin's barbeque,
D-night at the Lynchs', and a
team barbeque at the Kiemans'.
Coach John Todd's Harbormen, led by captains

Ned Hare and Sean Morgan, expect continued suc-
cess in the year 2000. The defense unit is to be led
by returning seniors Ned Hare, a
1999 all scholastic selection,
Tom Garland, Mike Costello, and
Justin Lynch. The attack, led by
seniors Adam Vickers and Mike
MacMaster, should prove to be a
high scoring unit. The midfield
is led by returning seniors Ted
Rynn, Sean Morgan, and Kevin
Foley. In the words of Ned Hare,
"We win games... Our defense is
stellah; our offense is A-OK."
Hingham, according to
Weymouth coach Tony Manzelli,
has grown to become one of the
most dominant teams of the
1990's in Masssachusetts lacrosse.

The Spring 2000 Golf Team
should be very strong, graduat-
ing only one senior from 1999.
Seniors Kevin
Hammond (cap-
tain), Brian Miller,
Thomas Murphy,
and Eric Murphy
should lead the team
to another strong
year. In 1999 the »*-•— ^— '^

defeated 12-0 in the
Patriot League. The
Team had three
league allstars in
1999: Kevin

ACTIVITIES

93

The officers of the '99-'00
AFS Club: president Ana
Dubrovsky, vice-presidents
Taylor Kirby-Madden and
Katie Engels, treasurer
Megg Fortin, and secretar-
ies Sarah Hill, Rachel
Szyman and Abby Randall

The AFS club, one of the largest in the school, has had an amazing four years with the class of
2000. Together we've traveled to Washington DC, California, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. A
few members of our class have gone abroad with AFS, including Jillian Sakolove, who traveled to
Chile, Steve Smith, who spent time in Italy, and Taylor Kirby-Madden, who visited Holland, among
others. This year, Julia Stuchi was able to join our class from Brazil. With our annual calendar
sale, leaf rake, dance-a-thon, and meetings, we've been awfully busy! This year, many of our
club's leaders were seniors, like Ana Dubrovsky, Taylor Kirby-Madden, Katie Engels, Sarah Hill,
Megg Fortin and Jillian Sakolove. Thanks to their leadership and advisor Ms. Gillard's help, we
had an extremely fun and successful year.

Leah, Liz, Matt and Lauren: the Officers

The Volunteer Club has continued its success this year. Our weekly visits to Cohasset Knoll to play bingo with
the men and women was a great way to cheer up the lives of many senior citizens. Co-presidents Liz and Matt,
and secretaries Lauren, Colleen and Amanda made this year a great success, along with many devoted mem-
bers. We'd like to thank our friends at Cohasset Knoll, especially Joe, Foster, Josephine, and Mary (oh no!!)
"Baaa". Thanks also to Mrs. Flaherty and Pipin for devoting their time to help us... help.

lS juniors, 25 members of our class
'ere part of the Peer Group. We met
very other day as a class, and par-
cipated in activities outside of
iass, too. In pairs, we were assigned
) both fifth and eighth grade
lasses. We planned specific lessons
)r each day that included games,
icts, and stories. We discussed
lings like drugs, alcohol, and bul-
es, as well as coming to the junior
igh and the high school. Thanks to
very one who helped!

MATH TEAM

The '99-'00 Math Team (below
left). Math Team Captains Sean
Morgan and Casey Fitzmaurice
(below right).

The 1999-2000 Math Team had a great year. Led by captains Casey Fitzmaurice and Sean Morgan, the team com-
peted in five statewide competitions. Hingham is a member of the Greater Boston Math League South Shore Divi-
sion, which includes the surrounding Weymouth, Abington, Braintree, Brockton, and Rockland High Schools. The
teams compete against each other in rounds answering three written questions in ten minutes. Hingham's big scorer
this year was none other than Abby Goodhue — what a surprise! Good luck to next year's team with captains Victoria
Riley and Amy DriscoU and thanks so much to the great coaches Mr. Baisden and Mr. Olson.

ACADEMIC DECATHALON

Yeah "Ac-Dec"! We had a great sea-
son this year as Hingham's first Aca-
demic Decathalon team under the
coaching of Ms. Breen and the

(Above)Captains of the Academic Decathalon
Sean Morgan and Jill Rowley.

Middle School's Ms. Roberts. Sean and Jill captained the
squad to an impressive showing at the meet. We had a fun
season, ate a lot of pizza and represented Hingham well.

HARBORLIGHT

The Harborlight is Hingham High's
monthly newspaper. It is produced by
student volunteers who have such journal
Stic interests as writing, photography,
:omputer design, and printing. The
primary goal of the Harborlight is to
eport the news that matters most to the
;tudent body, while reflecting the diver-
;ity of people at HHS. We focus prima-
ily on school events and local news, and
)Ccasionally feature state, national, and
vorld news that impacts our lives. Each
:dition features an editorial reflecting the
)pinions of a student on our society and
ulture. Thanks to our advisor, Mrs.
lehnquist, and the editors Marissa, Mike
/icky and Steve.

Ine literary magazine, "Outer Lim-

5' idents and faculty to explore cre-
[ve talents, through poetry, short
Dries, essays, and artwork. The

Students Against Drunk Driving is an organization of students who are concerned with
Drunk Driving in Hingham. We begin the school year by distributing a contract to the
student body against drunk driving. Other important events of the year include SADD
Awareness Day, fundraising, and hosting a drunk driving speaker. Senior officers include
Presidents Michael Hines and Marissa Bethoney, and Vice President Amy Pugliesi. Thanks
to our advisor Ms. Pfieffer. Good luck in the future, and don't forget: "Think before you
drink."

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

The National Honor Society is a service
organization. The highlight of our year is
the candle-light induction ceremony in
December, and it was extremely success-
ful this year. Guest speaker Ms. Leone
delivered her speech on the "hardships"
of being a math teacher; she was phenom-
enal. Our dinner meetings were a good
opportunity to socialize while getting
some work done and eating some great
food, supplied by all the members. Led
Dy president Abby Goodhue, vice-presi-
dent Jamie Diorio, secretary Jill Rowley,
md treasurer Mike Hines, the National
Tonor Society did some wonderful things
his year, including weekly visits to the
bod pantry and town elections in the
pring. Thanks to our advisor Ms.
^erelman for a great year!

BIOLOGY CLUB

The biology club had a lot
of fun this year, led by the
advisor Mrs. Duffy. Se-
niors, including Brendan
Gallagher, Marissa

Bethoney, Abby Goodhue,
Matt McLaughlin, Vicky
Harrington and Mike
Hines, along with the aid of
underclassmen, helped to
make this year a success,
helping to establish the
new biology classrooms.

The club eventually was able to reach the greenhouse amidst the construction. Thanks to

everyone for a great year, and good luck to future members !

Students for Environtmental
Action keep busy every year
doing our part to help the en-
vironment. Our central activ-
ity is the weekly recycling of
all the bottles and cans from the
bins in the cafeteria. Each
week, we've helped our school
to recycle about 60 pounds of
cans and bottles. Among our
other contributions are the do-
nations to a local charity to
benefit the environment, the local beach clean-up program in the spring, and the spring trip to Purga-
tory Chasm State Reservation. Thanks to our advisor Mr. Garland and good luck to next year's club.

SNOWBOARDING CLUB

This past winter was a wicked good time for the members of the Snowboard Club. After
Patrick Lenhart and Craig McViney got the club up and running again, we were carving
up mountains all over the Northeast. We had a blast at Waterville Valley tearing up the
boneyard. Thanks to the seniors and our advisor, Mrs. Krall, the Snowboard Club had a
great season. Good luck to next year's club!

La Bourn anyone? This year the French Club was much more
than weeknight movies. We also took trips into Boston to see
French movies, museums, and unbelievable French restaurants.
In the spring of 1999 we took a fascinating trip to France, start-
ing in Paris and travelling all throughout the country and leav-
ing our mark wherever we went. From Le Louvre, La Tour
Eiffel, Nice, and giraffes, we experienced the true French life.

This year, the Latin Club has held
monthly meetings at which we plan
for our larger events, like the Hal-

March, and the annual end-of-the-
year cookout. So far, there has been
great participation from over thirty mem-
bers, and the club is still growing, thanks to
presidents Cavi Freeland, Monet
MacGillivray, treasurer Amy Driscoll and
treasurer Kelly Murray. A special thanks
to Mr. Ryan. DON'T YOU WISH YOU

SPANISH CLUB

Lo bueno viene en fracaso chico. Though our club was small this year, we enjoyed numerous activi-
ties. We had fun this year with lots of fundraisers, a Spanish Ramenco show in Boston, a Cinco de
Mayo dinner, Taco/Movie nights and the Holiday party. The trip to Spain was an incredible experi-
ence. There was great leadership this year, thanks to co-presidents Jill Sakolove and Veronica Herman,
PR secretary Abby Goodhue, secretary Karen Grant, and treasurer Andrea Landers. Thanks also to
our advisor, Mr. Mulry. We are glad to have many memories to take with us when we leave HHS.

Although the 1999 Spring Sailing Season was not
the most successful for the Hingham High School
team, the sailors were provided with a great op-
portunity to improve their skills. The team's new
coach, Ken Corbett, brought enthusiasm and pro-
vided further insight into the technical aspects of
the sport. Having graduated four strong seniors at
the end of the previous year, the 1999 season was
dedicated primarily to rebuilding the team. Nu-
merous team members partici-
pated in non-league events,
which allowed them opportuni-
ties to improve their skills. Tim
Corbett and Casey Cartwright
placed second at the High School
Sail-Offs at MIT, and Kristen
Kehoe, Nancy White, and Lind-
say Blampied took part in the

women's double-handed regatta at Tabor Acad-
emy. Cocaptain Jordan Smith took first place in
the Junior Fleet of the Underclass Regatta at
CBL The team should see success in the 2000
season, as their 1999 efforts pay off. The team,
led by cocaptains Senior Jordan Smith and Jun-
ior Lindsay Blampied, plans to continue sailing
in the Mass Bay League. Members of the team
also plan to participate in a weekend regatta in
Montreal, the US Byte Nationals
in New Jersey, the Connecticut
Open, and the Glykman Fun
Festival. With the strong team,
including seniors Mike Count,
Stephen Smith, and Jordan Smith,
Hingham should dominate the
Mass Bay League and prove a
force to be reckoned with.

DEBATE TEAM

1999 was a great year for the HHS De-
bate Team, as we successfully ran four in-
house debates, arguing such topics as so-
cialism versus capital-
ism, and the limits of
U.S. Foreign policy in
the world. Team mem-

Surekha Gajria, Andy Vilaine, Pat

served as the judge of all
our debates. Thanks to
everybody for a great
year, and good luck to ev-

MEDIA

WHHS

Though Channel One took back their
TV's this year, WHHS did not rest. If
they couldn't be creative with TV clips,
they were creative with music for morn-
ing announcements. Thanks to this dedi-
cated group, including seniors: Marissa,
Mike, Steve, Liz, Kim, Sara, Casey,
Kerrie, Jill, Matt, Abby, Dave, Eric and
Elizabeth. HHS had their news each
morning and entertainment as well. A
special thanks goes to Mr. Thaxter for his
great direction.

Senior Video

Thanks to the technological skills of all
who helped produce the senior video, the
class of 2000 will have nostalgic memo-
rabilia for the rest of our lives. Each spent
hours putting the video together, and their
hard work paid off.

Film Club

The Film Club, including seniors Megg
Fortin and Jeff Bom, is a group which
focuses on watching and discussing vari-
ous films. It was started last year by a
group of sophomores, interested in me-
dia and film.

A special thanks to Mr. Thaxter, who
heads much of the media activities at
HHS.

The Drama Club had a wicked sweet
year. Led by co-presidents James "The
Rifleman" Diorio and Chris "Don't
touch his assets" Wessen, along with
Treasurer Hilary "Show me the money"
Hurst and Abby "She's the word" Bird,
the Drama Club put on one of its best
performances in recent memory, 42nd
Street. Under the direction of the club's
advisor, Mr. John Higgins, 42nd Street
was hailed by critics as "Number One
for Family Fun." Some of the club's
memories from the musical include the
Halloween bottle and can drive and
learning to strut and limbo. But the
Drama Club was not quite finished. The
club gave a stellar performance of the
powerful one-act play, "Bang, Bang,
You're Dead", which was not only
shown to the entire student body, but
was entered into the Massachusetts
High School Drama Festival where it
did very well. With the guidance of Di-
rector Mrs. Anita Levy-Sisk, the club
was able to complete this current and
moving play about high school
shootings. But the Drama Club went
further, putting on classroom one-acts
and starting its own improvisational
troupe. To culminate the club's accom-
plishments, they attended their annual
trip to New York City where they saw
"Ms. Saigon", "Jekyll and Hyde" and
"The Fantastics". To finish it off, the
Drama Club celebrated its first year
with a new auditorium on its annual
Thespian night. Good luck to future
members and carry on the traditions!

during the Homecoming Pep
Rally (left).

Hingham High School's band,
an extremely talented group,
has had a wonderful four years.
Seniors have been instrumen-
tal in developing the band's
unique character. Kids like
Sean Sullivan and Jill Rowley
have taken on leadership roles,
while others such as Eric
Murphy and Gus Peterson
have given the band its confi-
dence. The music program and
Mr. Wauchope, have meant a
great deal to many people. Its
members, including seniors
Tony Sestito, Beth O'Leary,
Mike Hines, Eric Murphy, Jill
Rowley, Chris Hren, Sean
Sullivan, Gus Peterson and
Veronica Herman will surely
miss the friendships formed
and the harmony they created.
Good luck to everyone!

>*1A.

JAZZ BAND

Two factors define the band and make
it what it is: the conductor and the stu-
dents. Mr. Wauchope, our conductor,
has worked incredibly hard during the
seniors' four years of high school.
Despite having to conduct both the
Foster and Middle School bands, he
has remained dedicated to promoting
excellence in the band and has always
made himself available for extra help
or advice. For the past four years Mr.
Wauchope has not only been a great
teacher, but a
good friend.
The jazz band,
an outstanding
section of the
high school
music pro-
gram, also
owes its

success to senior talent. This year the
jazz band, almost entirely made up of
seniors, has taken off. Under the lead-
ership of kids like Andrew Brady, John
Graham and Nick Accomando, it has
improved immensely from the fall of
our freshman year. Thanks to senior
members Jordan Smith, John Graham,
Andrew Brady, Nick Accomando,
Sean Sullivan, Eric Murphy, Chris
Hren, Jill Rowley, Gus Peterson, Tony
Sestito, and Vicky Lincoln, the band
has brought a
sense of

comraderie and
enjoyment.
Good luck to
all in experi-
encing new
groups, ideas
and people.

The Hingham High School Mixed Cho-
rus, aside from being musically suc-
cessful, has had a lot of fun. Under the
direction of Dr. Paul Cappers, the cho-
rus has achieved the completion of some
very difficult pieces, including Handel's
Messiah , Carl Orff s Carmina Burana .
Beethoven's Mass In C . and this year's
pieces, Leonard Bernstein's Chichester
Psalms and John Rutter's Gloria . The
chorus, has over one hundred members,
including over twenty members of the
graduating 2000 class. We've per-
formed in such places as Connecticut,
Quebec, Montreal, and of course,
Disney World. All of us, especially the
seniors, have created friendships that
extend beyond our music. We hope that
our songs will be passed on for years to
come, and our good times always
remembered.

This year has created quite a change in the way
Student Council is run. We accompUshed a tre-
mendous amount, thanks to the officers EUzabeth
Spatola, Sara Durgin, Kerrie Lenhart and Kim
Bonner. The Homecoming Pep Rally was our first
success as the '99-'00
Student Council. Mem-
bers came together and
had a fun and spirit-
filled outdoor pep rally
with a band. From that
point on, the Student
Council picked up and
has been very active in
all aspects of school and
community life. We
took part in the Walk For
Breast Cancer, Thanks-
giving baking for Fr.
Bill's Place, caroling at

Kerrie, Elizabeth,
The '99-'00 Student

the Harbor House, and Christmas in the City. There
were wonderful decorations for Thanksgiving and
Powder Puff, as well as for "42nd Street". We had
several successful fundraisers. Everyone enjoyed
the two SEMASC field trips and learned a lot from

the other councils. The
lock-in and MASC were
great student council ex-
periences which in-
creased our spirit and
ideas within our own
govemment. This year's
Student Council has
been extremely produc-
tive and a lot of fun!
Thank you to everyone,
especially our advisor,
Ms. Breen, who worked
so hard to make it a suc-
cess!

Amnesty International is an organization committed to fighting for people's rights around the globe.
Amnesty's advisor, Mr. Swett, assisted in helping the group organize letters written on behalf of
victims of injustice. Amnesty members are against the death penalty and many other forms of hu-
man rights violations. This organization, rather than focusing in on one group or country, fights for
everyone's benefit. Together, President Ned Hare, Vice President Kevin Foley, Secretary Abby Bird
and all the members make the club a meaningful and enjoyable one. Ned and Kevin work ex-
tremely hard to keep things organized and fun, and Abby usually just tells Ned and Kevin what they
should be doing. Although the meetings are sporadic, the food is good and the club is dedicated to
its cause. Thanks to Mr. Swett for everything, and good luck to all of our members! ! !

Keith,

Nineteen years ago you were a beautiful New Years Eve! You
have become a bright light and a shining melody and along with
your brother and sister have filled our hearts with wonderful notes.
Your love of music became our love of music.

May the melodies of life always be a Mozart Concerto and if
there is a dissonance among the notes, may you play them wisely!
We are very proud of you!

love.
